Obviously we need a home for the club and I have identified two great locations.
The first is a plot of land towards the end of the Rondout. This would be a perfect place as the creek is wide, sheltered but also close to the Hudson. We recently spoke with Robert Iannucci, who owns this property, and Robert would be willing to rent us it. The land could probably accommodate at least a hundred vessels and has a natural launching point, though it would take a little work. In addition there looks like there is ample space to park. You can see the location in the first image.
If fifty people could afford $250 a year (which breaks down to about $20 a month), that property could become our club and if we could attract more members, then the extra money would help in the maintenance of the club, training boats, safety equipment etc.
The second potential place I found is part of the new Empire State Trail, Ponchokie Park, which incorporates the old cement works adjacent to Hutton Brick works. This spot has a natural cove with a sandy beach which would be ideal for launching, plus there is a flat area near by to store craft and park cars. This site would be a lot more ambitious but at the same time it has greater potential. The sandy beach would be perfect for launching. You can see the location in the first image.
